Converted oil rig, dive resort off Sipadan
A decommissioned oil platform anchored off Mabul, Borneo, refitted into a 37-room dive resort where the rig's converted lift lowers you straight into the house reef. Rooms are simple but ensuite and air-conditioned; the point is the diving — unlimited drops under the platform and boat runs to Sipadan's wall. The catch: Sold as multi-night, per-diver dive packages (from ~RM4,700 for 4D/3N), and Sipadan's daily permit cap means your day there depends on allocation.
