Storybook, Themed & Vessel Stays

Storybook cottages, artist-built rooms, themed suites and vessel stays: we count only the ones a guest can actually book, which makes this the corner of the catalog we fill most slowly, on purpose. It is the most crowded and most loosely marketed category in travel, and a great deal of what ranks for it is an ordinary hotel room with a mural.

To get in, a stay has to be built around the idea rather than decorated with it: a structure genuinely shaped like the story it tells, or a vessel you sleep aboard. The bar is the same as everywhere else here — a real operator, a real room, and a date we confirmed it.

Themed stays also age faster than any other kind. Paint chips, licences lapse, and a room photographed beautifully years ago can be tired now, which makes the photographs the least reliable thing about them. We go by what is current.

If this page is thin, that is the honest state of it rather than an oversight. We would sooner show you nothing here than pad it out with rooms we have not stood behind.
