Historic Conversion Hotels

Prisons, chapels, warehouses, power stations and grain silos that became hotels without pretending they were anything else. Every one is opened by a person first, who confirms the rooms still take overnight guests and records the date.

The test we apply is whether the old use is still legible. A cell door you can close, a nave above the bed, a hopper you can see into from the corridor — if the conversion has erased the building, it is a nice hotel and not one of ours.

The catches vary with the original building, and we write down the one that applies. Cells are small and their windows are high; chapels are cold; industrial conversions can be loud, because the qualities that make a hall beautiful also make it echo. None of that is a secret a good operator hides.
