Transparent capsules and cabins bolted to a rock face, reached by climbing to them. Every one is confirmed still operating before it appears, with the date written down — this is a genre where a single rockfall or a lapsed permit closes a stay for a season.

The room is the position. A capsule is small, spare and usually a single space with a bed, a dry toilet and a window that is the entire wall; what you are paying for is the drop below it and the sunrise that arrives at eye level.

The catch is access, and it is not a formality. Most of these are reached by via ferrata or a guided climb with your luggage on your back, there is no stepping outside at night, and vertigo is a real disqualifier rather than a mood. Weather cancels, and cancellations here are frequent.
