Ice hotels, snow suites and igloo rooms, with the only question that really matters answered first: is it open this season. Most of them melt every spring and are rebuilt from scratch, so a page that was true last winter tells you nothing about this one.

We list places where you sleep in the ice or snow itself, or in the cold rooms of a property built around it. Many operators sell warm rooms on the same site, which is useful to know — but a heated cabin beside an ice bar is not an ice hotel, and we do not file it as one.

It is genuinely cold, and for most people it is a one-night thrill rather than a week. Expect a sleeping bag rated for the room, facilities in a heated building you walk to, and plenty of guests booking somewhere warm for their second night.

Opening dates move with the weather, and a published season is a plan rather than a promise. We date what we check and re-check on a rolling cycle, so a season that has quietly shifted gets caught instead of published.
